Meet Patricia McKean
Mortgage Architects
A closer look on a career of resilience, determination, and building success on her own terms.

How long have you been in the mortgage industry?
23 years.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
My children and marriage of 28 years.
What was the most difficult lesson learned in your career?
Don’t assume.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Being able to get a tough deal across the finish line so clients get their dream home.
If you could change one thing you did from when you started, what would it be?
Get out more and meet people. Be consistent with marketing and information sharing. Also, find a niche and be the expert!
If you had 4 additional hours in a day, how would you spend them?
Probably working and maybe going to bingo (my bad habit).
What’s one practical time management tip you’d give someone looking to improve?
Block off time to do certain tasks.
What’s your most memorable client success—and what made it stand out?
One of the most rewarding parts of being a mortgage broker is seeing how the right solution can change someone's life.
A few years ago, a single mom came to me overwhelmed by debt and struggling with high mortgage payments after being placed in an alternative mortgage she didn't need. After reviewing her situation, I refinanced her into a lower-rate mortgage with no unnecessary fees, giving her more manageable payments and financial breathing room.
Today, she still refers friends and family to me, and she keeps me updated on her family's milestones and successes. Those conversations remind me that a mortgage is never just about the rate—it's about helping people build a better future.
Every client has a story, and I'm grateful to be part of so many of them.
What’s one major industry shift you foresee?
Rates staying in the 4-5% and clients hesitant about buying. Not understanding the increased costs will also move to renters down the line.
What is the one piece of advice you would offer to a new broker?
Get out there and meet people to build relationships. Social media is great, but it doesn’t build trust.
What do you most value in your friends?
Loyalty and always being there for each other.
What is your motto?
Give it to someone busy to get it done (that would be me lol)
If you could have any superpower, which would you choose?
Add more time in my day lol.
What do you appreciate most about MERIX as a lender?
I love all the aspects! I am a huge supporter of the Trailer program, and I love the partnership I have with them that allows me to help my clients.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Having my family around.
